Race Report: Solihull No Frills 3 of 4

On a cracking evening, 3 of the club rode from Warwick to Solihull for the 3rd round of Solihull’s excellently accessible No Frills crits, at the Tudor Grange cycle circuit.

After a rapid first 30 minutes averaging >44kph, the race settled down and the attacks started to come. Missing what ended up being the race winning move by a few seconds, I kicked away in chase but realised soon after that I wouldn’t make it across. However, looking around I saw that I also had a decent gap to the bunch, meaning I was firmly in no-mans land. With only 10 minutes left of the race, I reasoned that I might be able to hang on solo, and went for it. I couldn’t!

After 7 minutes of chewing stem and making silly faces, I was caught by the group with a couple of laps to go, and had nothing left for the sprint. I also had barely enough for the ride home, but thankfully it’s mostly downhill. All in, a great training ride on a lovely evening.
